The Farm at Olney Friends School is practicing the Quaker tenet of stewardship by taking care of our water. We have planted cover crops including winter rye, wheat, and Austrian field peas to protect Livezey Lake, which sits at the top of the Captina Creek watershed.
Planting these crops has clear benefits to our fields and the watershed. They will return nutrients to the soil and prevent erosion. In the spring, these crops will be crimped in an organic no till method as part of our 9 field crop rotation.
The Farm at Olney Friends School’s 350 acre campus is a USDA certified organic farm, providing meat, vegetables, eggs, and educational opportunities to high school students. For enrollment information, visit www.olneyfriends.org.
