On Saturday, April 23rd, Olney Friends School welcomed nearly a dozen middle school students to campus for our annual Farm Out event. Visitors began the day with a poetry workshop held by humanities teacher Roger Reynolds. Spanish teacher Connie Collins then led a map-based scavenger hunt. The group made its way down to the farm where they picked lettuce with farmer Sandy Sterrett and interacted with our goats and chickens before enjoying a Farm Feast lunch.
During the afternoon, farmer Don Guindon ’74 led a hay ride around our 350-acre organic campus. The group then helped prepare items for our farm dinner. Science teacher Leonard Guindon ’70 led a Wildflower Walk, then Roger helped participants craft the poems they would read later in the evening. After a hearty dinner, our guests read their poems during the evening’s “Poultry Slam” event.
