Local friends and Friends are invited to join the Olney community in the year’s final February Friday event, 24 February at 1:30 PM EST in the Collection Room, for a program about the Quaker-sponsored Scattergood Hostel for European Refugees in Iowa during the second World War.
Dr. Michael Luick-Thrams, a native of Iowa and professor of social history at the Universität Erfurt in Thüringen, Germany, is traveling the US with a group of students to give lectures and workshops about “America’s largest grassroots response to the Holocaust” and other topics. Dr. Luick-Thrams has written a book and collaborated on a PBS featurette video, both titled Out of Hitler’s Reach: The Scattergood Hostel for European Refugees, 1939-43.
