Long Range Vision
Olney Friends School’s long-range campus planning began in 2001. With the help of architect Steve Avdakov, the school’s constituencies were consulted and building uses mapped. Evaluations were made of how well existing facilities serve current needs. A recurring concern about vehicular traffic patterns was voiced and a creative solution crafted. Landscape architect Gabe Hays joined the team in 2007 to help guide the site planning.
The location of the planned Activity Center / Gym will make use of the scenic view to Livezey Lake and geo-thermal potential from that lake, good solar orientation, and proximity to current campus buildings. Working closely with the building committee and members of the school community, Kayafas Architects, of Wheeling, West Virginia have incorporated many “green” features into the Activity Center plans. The long-range vision provides direction for the campus, to be phased in over time.
