Two Olney Seniors Granted Over $80,000 in Scholarship Monies

Olney seniors, Thuc Kien Vu, of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and Nita "Gaby" Gabriela Chavez, of Imbabura, Ecuador have been awarded distinguished scholarships from Clarkson University. Each student received four-year awards that are among the largest merit-based scholarships offered by the institution.

Thuc was awarded the Clarkson High School Achievement Award worth $9,000 per year, totaling $36,000 for four years. Gaby was offered the Clarkson High School Leadership Award worth $11,000 per year, totaling $44,000 for four years. Award recipients are defined by: strong academics, community involvement, extracurricular activities, and leadership roles.

Students who receive these awards must be recognized by other students and faculty as having been positive contributors to the school and community. Both Thuc and Gaby are in their second year at Olney and are valued members of the senior class. They both participate actively in self-government, community service activities, as well as multiple sports.

Clarkson University, founded in 1896, is located in Potsdam, New York and is recognized for graduating top scientists, engineers and business leaders. The school fosters leadership and practices interactive learning, making it a great fit for Olney's talented students.
