News: Olney Friends School's Taber Farm Wins Environmental Award

Olney Friends School is proud to announce that the school's Taber Farm has been named the recipient of the Ohio Dairy Producers Environmental Stewardship Award for 2006. The Taber Farm consists of orchards, vegetables gardens, and a small dairy farm of 65 Jersey cows that produce 41 pounds of Grade A milk a day on average. Cows at Taber Farm are grass fed and the milk they produce is sold to the local community. Orchard and garden produce are used in the school's kitchen. Students at Olney Friends School also work at the farm as part of the school work program.

Says the Ohio Livestock Coalition, "the Environmental Stewardship Awards Program annually recognizes the outstanding accomplishments made by individual beef cattle, dairy, swine, poultry, sheep, corn and soybean producers in developing and implementing exemplary management practices that protect the environment and conserve precious natural resources."
