News Release:
Olney Friends School Students Selected to Participate in East Central OMEA Orchestra
Two students from Olney Friends School, Barnesville, Ohio, were recently selected to participate in the Ohio Music Educators Association (OMEA) East Central Regional Orchestra. Kate Ulrich, 12th grader at Olney Friends School, was honored with the principal flute chair and Sarah Mozena, also a 12th grader, was honored with the principal violin chair.
Schools in the East Central Region wishing to participate in the orchestra are invited to send their top students to audition. After the students are chosen by audition, they are sent music to practice on their own. On the weekend of November 19-20, 2005, all students chosen to be a part of the orchestra will gather at Mansfield high school for intense rehearsals and a final performance.
While providing an intellectually challenging college-preparatory program, Olney Friends School also strives to nurture students' gifts and interests beyond the core curriculum. By providing a variety of music and art electives and also opportunities for students to participate in regional youth symphonies and orchestras, Olney Friends School encourages self expression and musical and artistic creativity.
