Olney Student Travels to China with the Capital Suzuki Violin Tour Group
Sarah Mozena, a junior at Olney Friends School, Barnesville, OH, recently traveled to China with the Capital Suzuki Violin Tour Group as part of an eleven day concert tour. The group left April 1, 2005 and returned home April 11, 2005. Also participating in the tour was Priscilla Mozena, music teacher at Olney Friends School. The purpose of the tour was to give the participating students the chance to share in music from different cultures and promote the Suzuki method of teaching violin. [Read More]
Olney Friends School Students Participate in "Five-Day Intensive Program"
Students at Olney Friends School, Barnesville, Ohio, took a week off from regularly scheduled classes in March to participate in the school's annual Five-Day Intensive Program. The activities offered to students this year included a tour of Boston-area colleges for juniors, a 9th grade trip to Washington D.C., an opportunity for service work in Philadelphia, a back-packing adventure in Kentucky, cooking classes on campus, and a Midwest tour of places of worship from various world religions. Chris Basler, Olney Friends Schools organic gardener and Humanities 10 teacher, recently attended the 14th annual Farming for the Future Conference sponsored by PASA, Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture. Dorm Staff Leadership Retreat
Thirteen student dorm staff members and four faculty dorm staff members attended a Leadership Skills retreat at the Linsly Outdoor Center in Georgetown, Pennsylvania. The November workshop was funded by a grant from the Friends Council on Education. [See More]
Laurel Highlands Hike
On a chilly November weekend, six students and two faculty members traveled to the Laurel Highlands in Pennsylvania for an eleven mile hike. The hike was part of a series of outdoor education events planned throughout the fall. [See More]

Garden Class
The Garden Class, taught by Chris Basler, prepares compost, and harvests and sorts vegetables for use in the Olney Friends School kitchen for school meals. [See More]
