Four Teachers are "Memorable Educators"

This month, four Olney Friends School teachers will be honored as Memorable Educators in the March 2006 issue of Ohio Magazine. David Stanley, Chris Basler, Jeff Basler, and Leonard Guindon will be profiled in Ohio Magazine's Excellence in Education-Private High Schools review. Teachers were nominated for the honor by their school's administrators. David Stanley has taught painting, drawing, ceramics and other arts at Olney Friends School for 25 years. Mr. Stanley emphasizes explorative self-discovery in his classes. Chris Basler has taught Humanities 10 and a variety of electives, such as World Religions and Organic Gardening, at Olney Friends School for 4 years. Ms. Basler empowers students in her Humanities 10 class by giving them choices in the literature they read through student-led book groups. Jeff Basler has been teaching Humanities 11, ESL, and religion electives such as Hebrew Bible, for 5 years at Olney Friends School. Mr. Basler utilizes brain-based teaching in his classes by presenting content in different learning styles. Leonard Guindon has been teaching Biology, Environmental Science, and Geometry at Olney Friends School for 20 years. Mr. Guindon uses real-life applications to excite his students about science.

Olney Friends School provides an intellectually challenging academic program for grades 9-12 in a supportive Quaker community. Teachers endeavor to nurture a love of learning in their students as well as develop skills of critical thinking to successfully prepare them for college and beyond. Course offerings include standard college preparatory courses (including AP classes), fine arts and a variety of electives.
