News Release: Friends Music Camp
Friends Music Camp is for musicians between the ages of 10 to 18. There are students from 18 different states at this year's camp. Additionally, one camper and two staff members reside in Switzerland and one camper resides in Japan. Campers have the option of staying for a varied period of two or four weeks. "We encourage fun, personal growth, and musical development at Friends Music Camp," said Peg Champney, director of Friends Music Camp. "We emphasize music without competition through community and Quaker values."
Friends Music camp is well organized, with students having time to learn and relax. All band orchestra instruments, piano, guitar and voice lessons are taught. Campers take part in many outdoor activities such as: hiking, canoeing, and a variety of other friendly games. Throughout their stay, campers perform concerts for the public. Champney said the public is welcome to attend the events and experience the progress of the musicians and watch their skills grow and develop.
Many opportunities exist to witness the beautiful sounds of the Friends Music Camp. Staff recitals will be held on July 18, and 25th at 7:45pm in the Auditorium at Olney Friends School.
