Olney Friends School to Host National Spring Meeting for Heads of Quaker Schools
Letter from Head of School
In my role as Olney Friends School's head, I am privileged to serve on the board for the Friends Council on Education (FCE). This organization, founded by a group of volunteer Quaker educators in 1931, promotes the theory and practice of Quaker education, supports Friends schools (Pre K-12) in maintaining their values-based learning environments, and provides a professional development network for educational issues, philosophy and practice in Friends schools. There are eighty FCE member Friends schools. FCE's publications and programs on governance, peace education, service learning, community building, and Quaker testimonies in school life promote Friends values so critical to today's society.
Each year there are a number of meetings, workshops, and networking opportunities for Friends school trustees, administrators, teachers and staff. In the spring the heads of the thirty Quaker secondary schools meet, often hosted by one of the member schools. This year these administrators, whose schools are mostly concentrated on the East coast, will be traveling to Olney Friends School - a first in the long history of both Olney and FCE! We are proud to be sharing the Olney educational experience and values with fellow heads of Friends Schools.
