Olney Friends School
News Release: Rayna Gellert and Susie Goehring Perform at Olney Friends School

On Saturday, November 26, 2005 Olney Friends School was honored to host Rayna Gellert and Susie Goehring in a concert benefiting the school. Although school was not in session at the time of the concert, the two performers drew a local audience as well as fans from Columbus and Athens, OH. Performing in concert together for the first time, Gellert and Goehring showcased many favorites from their recently recorded CD titled Starch and Iron.

Rayna Gellert of Asheville, NC, is one of the country's most well-respected contemporary interpreters of traditional southern fiddle music. She is also a lead player in the recently acclaimed all-girl band, Uncle Earl, recorded on the Rounder record label. Susie Goehring, from Ravenna, OH, is a seasoned rhythm guitarist with a keen understanding of traditional pre-bluegrass back-up guitar styles. She provides exactly the right accompaniment for Rayna Gellert's unadulterated old-time fiddle sound. Susie's voice, which is low and soft, has an authentic purity that she uses beautifully to deliver compelling versions of traditional American ballads and songs such as "Say Darlin Say" and "Train on the Island."
