Olney 2008 Class Reunions

The 2008 Olney Reunion was one the best attended in years. Close to 200 Olney Alumni gathered at the Stillwater Meeting House to celebrate the official kick-off of the 'Time To Build' Campaign, greet their classmates and welcome the Class of 2008 in to the Alumni registers. Many alumni were returning to Olney for the first time in over ten or twenty years. All were impressed with the vitality of the school, the beauty of the grounds, the dedicated staff, the great food and the impressive college bound class of 2008 graduates. A new trend that has been appearing is the 'cluster' or 'era' reunion. This allows alumni who have attended Olney together as freshmen, sophomores, juniors or seniors to jointly celebrate their ties and special friendships. In particular, the classes of '73, '74 and '75 enjoyed several activities together, thanks to the leadership of Don Guindon '74 (currently the farm manager at OFS). One of the highlights of that "era" reunion was a slideshow arranged by Ken Hinshaw '74 with photographs that had been sent to him by his former schoolmates. This hour long show, accompanied by music of the times captured the spirit of the early seventies at Olney. Snapshots of the Renaissance games at the Junior Social, campfires, folk music and students clearing and digging the site for Livesy Lake characterized a culture of pageantry, friendships, fun and service. Another era reunion was that of the 90s; this group enjoyed time together and shared memories of their schoolmate Cynthia Mora who passed away on October 30, 2007. Schoolmates, family and friends gathered for a memorial service for Cynthia that included the dedication of two Japanese Snowbell trees planted in front of the Mary Davis.

Sharing this time together were, Cynthia's parents, Victor and Sara Franco de Mora, her sister and brother-in-law Pete '82 and Lizmeth '90 Stanley, cousins Ulises Franco '93 and David Franco, Judy Hale '91, Megan Lewis '91, Keith Reed '93, March Sustarsic '93, Amy Williamson '93, Veronica Heer '94, Ryan Showers '94, Vic Hon & Anna Kirk '53 Peacock, Leonard '70 & Legenia Hon Guindon, Sean Compagnucci Hon, DR '66 & Carolyn Hon Stanley, Cleda Ewald Mott '57, Amy Stanley Dennis Hon, Elizabeth Stanley Bowling '76, John Stanley '71, Debbie Reed. Others who helped with this special project but could not be here are Alex Barchenkov '92 and Joseph Kim '93. Other reunions and gatherings included:
