Our humanities curriculum was designed with the recognition that literature and history complement each other to create deeper understandings of both disciplines.
A study of history complements literature and gives richness to symbolism and style.
Literature provides a human face to history that can seem remote to our students without narrative.
Humanities also provides a space for skills instruction. Language and vocabulary are taught at each level. Library instruction, research skills lessons, and presentation and speech practice all happen during humanities.
Students write expository, narrative, and creative pieces; most students can expect to write at least one paper each week. Each year students produce a longer research paper culminating in the senior graduation essay, a long research paper written during the students' last term and presented to the faculty.
