Library

The Olney Friends School Library includes over 10,000 volumes and more than 40 current magazines and newspapers in its physical location in the heart of the Main Building. The online catalog also serves as portal to a wide range of electronic resources through INFOhio, a school library consortium providing 16 online databases with full-text access to thousands of periodicals. A professional librarian provides information literacy instruction and reference service; purchases library and classroom materials to support an evolving curriculum; and manages library operations, training students to assist with routine tasks as community service. Four desktop computers with internet connections, wired and wireless network access for laptops, and a black-and-white printer and photocopier are all dedicated for student use.

All Olney students are also eligible for a local public library card, which grants access to materials in all formats from over 150 Ohio public libraries. These borrowing privileges include inter-library loan through OhioLINK, a consortium of the libraries of 84 Ohio colleges and universities and the State Library of Ohio.

The librarian welcomes student book-buying recommendations! Recent book purchases include:

  • Blue Nile: Ethiopia’s River of Magic and Mystery by Virginia Morell
  • Tiananmen Moon: Inside the Chinese Student Uprising by Philip Cunningham
  • The Rough Guide to Anime by Simon Richmond
  • Spanish translation of some of the Harry Potter books by J. K. Rowling
