Available Positions for 2008-2009:
Spanish Teacher: Olney Friends School seeks an experienced teacher of Spanish language to teach high school Spanish. The ideal candidate will have had a successful prior teaching experience in Spanish, preferably at the high school level. Educators with an interest in teaching outside the Spanish language department are encouraged to apply.
Duties beyond teaching include but are not limited to: advising, evening/night duties one time per week, weekend duties every 3rd or 4th weekend, and willingness to coach and/or lead extracurricular activities. On-campus housing (for families and singles) is available for candidates who desire to play a significant role in campus life.

Humanities Teachers: Humanities I - IV courses are taught in 80 minute blocks and strive to integrate literature, history, and social studies into one course, looking for connections among the three. Faculty openings are for Hum II and Hum IV:
Humanities II is the study of U.S. history from the Colonial Era to the Vietnam War. The course is centered around the themes of colonization, slavery, race relations, and civil rights.
Humanities IV explores the impulse toward imperialism and the evolution of globalization from the 15th century on.
Candidates with expertise and willingness to teach in other departments are encouraged to apply. Candidates with experience in teaching international students are encouraged to apply.
Math / Science teacher: Olney Friends School is seeking an upper level math and science teacher to offer AP Calculus, AP Physics, conceptual physics and/ or chemistry. A normal course load at Olney Friends School is four courses with approximately 40 students total.
Candidates with expertise and willingness to teach ESL to international students are encouraged to apply.
Librarian: The print collection at Olney contains over 10,000 volumes. Supported by the Stark Portage Area Computer Consortium, Olney's library is
fully automated with SirsiDynix WorkFlows. Additionally, the library
provides access to electronic resources through INFOhio, a
state-funded virtual K-12 library available to all Ohio's K-12
students and teachers.
The library, a pleasant space centrally located in the main building,
is open all hours, including evening hours preceding dorm time as well
as weekends. Students and adults use self-serve automated checkout.
Responsibilities include all aspects of library management, including
collaborative work with classroom teachers, instruction of students in
library and research skills, collection development, cataloging,
budget, technology management, and circulation. The librarian is
responsible for textbook purchases and supervision of a student
volunteer, who is available to assist with clerical tasks.
The librarian is a member of the teaching faculty and reports to the
Dean of Faculty. Depending on qualifications, the librarian may be
asked to teach classes and assist with school activities and projects
as needed. Candidates must have an MLS, MLIS, Library Media Specialist
degree, or equivalent experience. Experience working with high school
students is preferred.
Technology Coordinator
Information Technology Coordinator: Responsible for technology budget in coordination with Business Manager; Support all school employees in their use of computer technology; Provide technical curriculum assistance regarding hardware usage, software applications, computer technology, and the general instructional use of technology in the classroom; Develop, update, and maintain the school?s inventory of software and hardware; Trouble-shoot problems relating to hardware and software; Maintain general-use computer labs; Maintain all faculty, staff and administrative computers; Maintain Linux servers; Maintain network infrastructure (wires, switches, routers) in coordination with the Director of Maintenance; Work with external contractors to provide Internet services including: Internet access, e-mail, website hosting, and library services; Coordinate/oversee student technology assistants; Guide the implementation of new information technologies at OFS; Stay current with technological knowledge and skills; Guide implementation of databases.
